The WHY behind Kula Yoga Fest

“I didn't grow up with mentors in my life so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about the purpose of life.” -Rosie Acosta

The Radically Loved Podcast begins with an introduction by the hostess Rosie Acosta, sharing why she started the podcast in the first place. She talks about being a teen during the LA riots, going down a troubled path, saying “I didn't grow up with mentors in my life so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about the purpose of life.”

Her story, while unique in the details and setting, is likely relatable and quite common to many.  Many of us did not grow up with mentors. And even if we did, the best of intentions are not always what we needed or what we would choose, if given the choice

I have come to accept with gratitude that each of my parents did the VERY BEST they could with what they had at the time. Blessed beyond measure, I have had the privilege and freedom to choose my own path. And it’s important to state that not all people, whether in this country or elsewhere, have that freedom.

Not taking that freedom for granted I set out to find answers to the meaning of life, and live my best one! Life is a gift and we each have a responsibility to honor that gift as Marianne Williamson so eloquently reflects on in her book A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles.”

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? " Actually, who are you not to be?”

― Marianne Williamson

And so here it is… my WHY for creating this festival:

I hope you find teachers who inspire you! I hope you experience classes and workshops that will support your life’s journey! And I hope WE discover relationships that nourish OUR souls!

Kula Yoga Fest is being birthed out of the deep desire to serve our community with the bright light and inspiration of teachers from both near and far in practices of movement, healing, growth, and LOVE. Podcasts, books, yoga classes, and workshops are phenomenal ways to learn and grow. And a festival amplifies those experiences in real life, together in person over the course of a long weekend. It’s meeting teachers you may not have otherwise been introduced to who just might be your next mentor. It’s sharing in song and dance, yoga, and nature trails with old friends and making new ones. You will meet people at Kula Yoga Fest that you will never forget! And it will be the BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD! You may walk away from the weekend events with your mind and heart burst wide open, or with a few seeds planted. Either way, YOU GROW!

And with that WE GROW, as a community, a society, a world!

“The main requirement for spiritual growth: A yearning to know who you really are.” – Adyashanti

I hope you join us Sept 22nd - 24th at Kula Yoga Fest!
